ADVENTURES OF PAULA PERIL 2014 (TUBI)

Wow...where has this film been?

First off, I am not a fan of the dreadful DC Universe. I cannot stand the current crap...oops I meant crop of comic book drivel that the studios make these days.

However, I stumbled on this little gem and was very, very surprised and impressed. This is a very quick moving movie edited from three short tales involving a beautiful reporter named Paula Peril (Valerie Perez).

From the opening scene of a tired up Paula to the very end I was glued to the screen. Our intrepid reporter faces many perils while trying to get a major story.

She deals with human sacrifices, ghosts and some very nasty thugs who are intent on killing her. I guess what attracted me to this so much, besides Paula in her sexy tight top, miniskirt and boots was the fact that it reminded me of the innocent charm of a 30's film with Nancy Drew.

Besdies the three episodes there is also about 30 minutes of new footage shot for this release, and I wish there was a lot more. This is how you make a comic book. There is plenty of action, sexy women in bondage and humor.

Perez makes a super hot female lead and the rest of the cast includes Maria Malcolm, James Conner, Stephen Hanthron and Kourtney Shales. Don't pass this one up, you'll be missing a real treat.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

RIP VERONICA CARLSON 1944-2022

A very beautiful and talented actress has died.

I am sure there is nobody reading this blog that is not familiar with the work of gorgeous Veronica Carlson. We all grew up watching her and I simply cannot believe I am writing this.

I was first introduced to her in the Hammer film "Dracula Has Risen From The Grave" and then sought out everything I could see her in. Her list of Hammer horror films is impressive indeed.

She also starred in such classics as "The Ghoul", "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed", "Horror Of Frankenstein, and "Old Dracula".

Tall and long blonde hair with a great figure. My God, they don't make em like Veronica anymore. Outside of the movie world Veronica was a kind and very intelligent woman who always made her fans feel welcome whenever they came to see her.

She my be gone, but her Hammer film legacy lives on. She really made my growing up years as a monster kid a hell of a lot of fun. She passed away on Feb. 27th, 2022 at the age of 77.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

Joanne Woodward is 92, and Rosanna Yanni is 84.

LOVELY BUT DEADLY 1981 (TUBI)

Boy, you never know what you'll find when surfing streaming networks.

This is a highly entertaining action film from the early 80's starring a young lady named Lucinda Dooling. She only made a small amount of fims in her short career, and this one is damn near perfect.

Dooling stars as Mary Ann Lovitt, a cheerleader in a local high school that has had her share of friends die from use of illegal drugs. She is fed up and decides to do something about it.

She manages to topple the drug empire of a top high school kingpin named Mantis (Rick Moser). There is a lot of bizarre action in here including the climactic fight scene involving all the cheerleaders and drug smugglers.

They just don't make films like this anymore, which is why so many movies suck these days. The rest of the cast includes Marie Windsor, John Randolph, Mel Novak, Susan Meschner and Richard Herd.

If you get a chance to see this wonder, do so. You owe it to yourself to have a very good time watching a movie, and this film delivers good times in spades.

RIP SALLY KELLERMAN 1937-2022

A very prolific actress has died.

Kellerman started her long career in both TV and movies back in 1957 in the AIP classic "Reform School Girl" and various parts in TV series such as "Surfside 6".

In 1962 she starred in "Hands Of A Stranger" and then she appeared in an episode of "The Twilight Zone" and two episodes of "The Outer Limits". Some of her other TV roles known by genre fans include episodes of "Tarzan", "The Invaders" and much more.

Her biggest claim to fame was the role of "Hot Lips" O' Houlilan in the movie "MASH". Her career ran about 60 years and she was in almost every genre type of movie of TV show you can think.

A very attractive woman she was when I first saw her in The Outer Limits. She will be missed. Sally Kellerman died on Feb 24th, 2022 at the age of 84 from Dementia.

TERROR IN THE WAX MUSEUM 1973 (TUBI)

Another all star horror film, but this one is from Bing Crosby Productions.

A great cast of genre favorites appear in this tale about murders in and around an old wax museum.

The plot is right out of a 1930's old dark house mystery or a murder in the wax museum tale, but it is kept moving by a fine cast and director. As usual there are plenty of "red herrings" in the plot.

A police investigator, Inspector Daniels (Maurice Evans) believes that the killer might by the original Jack The Ripper, but his young assistant believes otherwise. The first killing involves the owner of the Wax Museum, a character named Claude Dupree (John Carradine) who was going to seel the museum to a buyer from the United States named Amos Burns (Broderick Crawford).

There are several other bloody murders and each one is made to look more and more like the Ripper. Some of the people in town suspect the hunchback named Karkov (Steven Marlo) is the killer, but this is soon proven wrong.

The entire nasty business is finally brought to an end by Scotland Yard, and the killer is revealed to be someone I believe viewers would least suspect at all. I won't give it away here.

Directed by Georg Fenady and produced by his brother Andrew Fenady, this little time capsule of a movie captures the feel of a 30's mystery perfectly. The rest of the cast includes Ray Milland, Elsa Lanchester, Mark edwards, Patric Knowles, Louis Hayward, Lisa Lu, Nicole Shelby, Shanni Wallis, Peggy Stewart and Ben Wright.

I first saw this on TV way back in the mid 70's and then again a few days ago on Tubi. It's a great film for genre fans for many reasons, especially the cast. RECOMMENDED!!

SOUTH BEACH 1992 (TUBI)

I've read some bad things about this film, but I found it to be very good.

Mind you, this is not original, but it's well done. Fred Williamson stars as Mack Derringer, a former pro football star and police officer turned private detective. He hasn't had too much luck lately finding good paying cases and he and his buddy Lenny (Gary Busey) spend their time playing golf.

Soon Mack is contacted by his gorgeous ex-wife Jennifer (Vanity) who is now working a phone sex hotline. A madman is stalking her and claiming that she belongs to him, and she wants Mack to find the psycho.

He reluctantly decides to help her and the dead bodies keep piling up. Mack's former boss on the police force, Ted Coleman (Robert Forster) offers to help, but warns Mack not to break the law in any way.

The film slowly builds to a great twist ending that I really didn't see coming. Vanity is simply sexy as hell in this film, and to me she steals the show. There is quite a cast of genre greats including Stella Stevens, Sam J. Jones, Peter Fonda, Henry Silva (in a great small role), Isabel Sanford and Sheree Devereaux.

Again, this is nothing new, but it does hold your attention and with this cast there is no reason to miss it. Watch it just to see Vanity in all of her gorgeous glory.

FURY AT FURNACE CREEK 1948 (TUBI)

Well made late 40's western.

The story opens with a wagon train being led by the Cavalry. The Cavalry is soon called away after a message is received to leave the wagon train un-escorted and return to other duties.

As the wagon train approaches a fort we find that Indians have massacred the people on the wagon train and taken their place. Hence, the fort is also completely destroyed and everyone killed. A Gen Blackwell (Robert Warwick) is accused of treason for sending the message.

Warwick dies and his name is a disgrace. One of his sons named Rufe Blackwell (Glenn Langon) travels to a small town near where the fort used to be in order to prove his father innocent. His other son, Cash (Victor Mature), who is the black sheep of the family also travels to Furnace Creek to find out who framed his father.

Rufe and Cash do not get along and while Rufe uses legal means to conduct his investigation, Cash gets a job as a hired gun for the top man in town named Edward Leverett (Albert Dekker).

Cash learns that it was Leverett and several others who planned the slaughter in order to protect their mineral rights they had claimed in the area. Cash sets out on revenge and asks for his brothers help.

This leads to a great climax with Cash and Rufe fighting side by side against the very evil Leverett and his band of killers. This is a very fast paced western with a top notch cast and planty of action.

H. Bruce Humberstone handles the directing chores perfectly. The rest of the cast includes Coleen Gray, Fred Clark, Reginald Gardiner, Charles kemper and Roy Roberts.

A very good film that seems to be not as famous as it should be. A MUST see for Western fans.

AMERICAN PSYCHOPATH 2015 (TUBI)

Bert Gordon directed this shocker.

This was Gordon's first film in 26 years and he was 93 when he made it!! Holy smoke!!

Henry (Mark Famiglietti) is a twisted psycho who meets women online and then lures them to his house to be married. Well, this isn't good, and what makes it worse is that his sister Catherine (Kari Wuhrer) is almost a sick as he is.

Henry cannot have sex with women so he kills them and then takes their picture. He and his sister dress like dolls when they kill. That in itself is a sight to behold.

It's very clear that Henry is attracted to his sister and she is always telling him that she is the only one he can have sex with and do it right. Wuhrer is very sexy in this film, as she always is and her good looks and psychopathic actions mix well.

Gordon has been making films since the 50's with such classics as "Amazing Colossal Man", "The Spider" and many, many other gems of the era. Here he is still going strong and shows he can still handle the job. Bert is still with us and will be 100 later this year.

If you stumble on this film I think you need to take a look at it. I am a huge fan of both Gordon and Wuhrer and was not disappointed at all. It's also known as "Secrets Of A Psychopath".

RIP IVAN REITMAN 1946-2022

One of the men who helped make Canadian cinema great has died.

Reitman's career was one of legend. In the early to mid 1970's he and David Cronenberg shocked cinema audiences with such horror classics as "Rabid" with Marilyn Chambers and "They Came From Within" with Barbara Steele.

Reitman produced these two movies and the rest is history. He also produced such cult films as "Cannibal Girls" and "Ilsa, The Tigress Of Siberia".

Ivan also directed some of the films her produced including "Meatballs", "Stripes", "Cannibal Girls", and the immortal "Ghostbusters" as well as several other major hits.

A true legend of Canadian film is no longer with us, but what a great legacy of films. Ivan Reitman passed away on February 12th, 2022 at the age of 75.

RIP NANCY BERG 1931-2022

The film and TV actress has passed away.

Nancy had a short career, but what a career. Her performances were always good, but some were simply outstanding.

She had the role of Ilsa Wolf in the classic "Fail Safe" and her performance is something that is not forgotten once it's seen. She also appeared in several TV series including "Perry Mason", "New York Confidential" and "The Doctors.

She also appreared in the exploitation gem entitled "Thunder In Dixie". Nancy Berg passed away on February 4th, 2022 at the age of 90.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

BELOW THE DEADLINE 1936 (SINISTER CINEMA)

A good little film from Chesterfield Pictures.

A young woman named Molly (Cecilia Parker) is planning on marrying an Irish cop named Terry (Russell Hopton).

She meets a stranger who gives her a ride home on night after she has worked late at her jewelry company. The stranger meets Terry and all seems normal.

However, the stranger is connected with a gang of crooks who want to steal a shipment of diamonds coming to the jewelry company. They get one of their own to look and sound like Terry and then wear a mask.

When the robbery is pulled off the police arrest Terry in connection with the crime and he and Cecilia must prove his innocence. This is a fast paced low budget thriller that necver seems to slow down.

Actress Parker was borrowed from MGM which is a rare happening. Major studios never lent their talent to "poverty row" studios, but they did in this case, and it works perfectly.

I can easily recommend this 64 minute gem. People often say these low budget films from companies like this are awful, but that is not the case. This film is an undiscovered gem.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

Kim Novak is 89, Bo Svenson is 81, Ewa Aulin is 72, Roberta Vasquez is 59 and Nicoletta Elmi is 58.

MULBERRY STREET 2007 (TUBI)

A weird but well made film.

An infection from deadly rats spreads thru Manhatten and quickly spirals out of control.

The story centers around a group of people in a bar and in an apartment complex as they fight for survival against a plague that turns people into flesh eating rat-like monsters.

The cast of unknowns is very good and adds a sense of realism to the proceedings, and some of the death scenes are really shocking. This was a small independent film that was made under some difficult circumstances, but it did get done.

I have read that the cast wasn't paid as most of them volunteered or were friends of the director. The settings are very closed in and tight which makes the rising threat outside even worse.

Most of the characters you'd expect to survive do not and that throws an even bigger twist into the film. I enjoyed this a lot and it's far better than the title suggests.

If you like these kinds of movies, this is really for you. I recommend the film and hope, if you see it, you like it as well. Watch out for those at monsters!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

Joe Don Baker is 86, Maud Adams is 77, and H. M. Wynant is 95.
