RIP RAY BRADBURY 1920-2012

One of the greatest writers of our age has died at the age of 91. Ray Bradbury shaped my life with his wonderful tales of Sci-fi and fantasy. I hate writing this as Bradbury was a lifetime favorite of mine.
Anyone who is anyone has read at least one of his novels or short stories. The film Beast From 20,000 Fathoms was based on a Bradbury tale so was the classic Fahrenheit 451, and many things from TV including the Twilight Zone story I Sing The Body Electric and the Outer Limits episode entitled I Robot. He was also the screen writer for the Universal film It Came from Outer Space.
Who could ever forget Shape of Things To Come and Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Martian Chronicals?
His writing will always live with me and many others. Bradbury was a man who could actually WRITE a book and be original, unlike todays crowd of cocaine addicted freaks who THINK they can write. There will NEVER be another like him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO....

WILD WOMEN (BOWANGA BOWANGA) 1951 (E ONE)

This is an episode from the show Elivira's Movie Macabre, and it's funny as hell. First Elvira brings us this terrible but fun film from 1951 about men kidnapped by white jungle goddesses, and then she hosts a show called The Brew which is ripped off...oops I mean inspired by The View, a show with four bitches...oops I mean witches talking about nothing and being ...well you get the idea.
The movie is awful, but I mean that in a very good way. The acting is simply awful, and the ending is a real laugh riot and knee slapper. Elvira and her friend make any movie watchable, and this is no exception.
This is included on a set of four Elvira programs and those will be reviewed soon and they include two never before aired episodes.
Highly Recommended!!

WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE 1951 (PARAMOUNT)

Classic George Pal film about a planet on a collision course with earth, and the desparate attempt to save as much of humanity as possible in a short time.
The urgency never lets up and this is a top notch sci-fi film featuring the artwork of Chesley Bonestell. Many, especially viewers of the modern era have criticized the ending with the "Disney-like" painting of the new planet the survivors have landed on, but one must understand that Pal and company were rushed to meet deadlines and budget cuts, and they did the best they could, and I for one admire that.
This film conveys human nature at it's best which is savage and brutal in a survival situation.
Richard Derr, Larry Keating, John Hoyt, Hayden Rourke, Sam Cady and the always sexy Barbara Rush head a great cast.
Recommended for any sci-fi fan.

ILSA THE WICKED WARDEN 1977 (CHEEZY FLICKS)

Once in a while I slip into darker regions of films, as we all have to do, and this is about as dark as it gets. Dyanne Thorne stars as Ilsa, a woman running a "hospital" in a South American country which is actually a playground for her sadistic needs.
Ilsa tortures any female inmate she pleases with the most vicious methods at her disposal. A young woman has herself put in there to discover what happened to her sister.
Director Jess Franco also stars as a doctor heading up the revolution to take Ilsa out of power. He fails miserably and soon the young woman finds the hell easier to enter than leave.
Lina Romay is in her sexy prime here as an inmate who is made into a pin cushion by Ilsa in a very long and painful scene.
There are even darker things in this film that I won't discuss, but the ending is like no other I have seen.
This is recommended only for those with a strong stomach and those wanting a heavy dose of pain with the movie experience.

INNKEEPERS, THE 2011 (DARK SKY)

House Of The Devil was an excellent film so I decided to check out The Innkeepers from director Ti West as well, and I found myself really liking this film a lot. I guess my only complaint is that is could have been shaved of about 15 minutes, but why carp about that.
Two young people at a hotel that is closing down seek to find out if the place they are working at is really haunted, and boy do they find out!!
Sara Paxton and Pat Healy are the two "ghost hunters" and Kelly McGillis is a former actress turned psychic staying at the hotel for it's final weekend and who brings a grave warning of danger.
Not bad at all for a modern film since it doesn't have CGI effects and stupid superheroes running around. The ending is very well done and somewhat creepy and very understated.
Recommended!!

RIP RICHARD DAWSON 1932-2012

The man best known as the original host of the show Family Fued has passed away at the age of 79. Dawson was also one of the members of the cast of Hogan's Heroes.
He was also in such TV shows as the original Outer Limits, The Munsters and many more.

NEPTUNE FACTOR 1966 (FOX)

Interesting and well made film about a team of three men who are working in an underwater lab who suddenly find themselves lost in a weird underwater world after an earthquake throws the lab into a cavern deeper under the ocean than anyone has ever gone.
Topside, a group of scientists take a small underwater craft called Neptune to new depths to find the lost men and run into a world where man is easily the smallest creature there.
Ben Gazzara, Ernest Borgning, Yvetter Mimieux, and Walter Pidgeon star in this exciting film that is sure to please sci-fi buffs and adventure fans as well.

LOVE FROM A STRANGER 1937 (MILL CREEK)

Ann Harding plays a woman who wins a lottery and soon finds herself married to a man played by Basil Rathbone. Slowly he takes over her entire life and becomes more and more insane!!
The slow build up is very well done and Rathbone has never appeared more insane in a film. The ending is a pulse pounder that still works to this day. If you see it you'll know exactly what I mean. Recommended!!
