TOP 50 RELEASES OF THE YEAR

I am continuing the countdown of my 50 best DVD releases of the year and we are up to number 30...here we go.
30. Gamera Vs. Gyoas/Gamera vs. Viras (Shout Factory) Two more giant turtle movies from Japan finally made available here in the states in widescreen and impeccable quality from Shout.
29. Piranha (Shout Factory) The original 1978 Roger Corman production directed by Joe Dante about a swarm of mutant piranha on the loose. Bradford Dillman, Kevin McCarthy and Heather Menzies round out the stellar cats in a most enjoyable film. Shout gave us this one in a simply gorgeous print.
28. Tales From The Darkside Seasons 3 and 4 (CBS) The final two seasons of this George Romero produced TV show contains some excellent horror episodes.
27. Death Race 2000 (Shout Factory) One of my al time favorite films concerns running over people for points in a cross county road race of the future. David Carradine stars and Paul Bartel directed this Roger Corman classic.
26. Rocky & Bullwinkle Season 4 (Classic Media) This is actually the shortest season for the show as it only contains 19 episodes, but this is still highly recommended.
25. Galaxy Of Terror (Shout Factory) This is the famous Roger Corman produced space epic about a strange planet where a bizarre force brings people's fears to life. Watch out for that giant maggot!!!!
24. Terminal Island (Code Red) Tom Selleck stars as a doctor condemned to life on a small island where prisoners run free. Much like a poor man's Escape from New York but with a cast of sexy female prisoners such as Phyllis Davis, Barbara Leigh and Marta Kristen. Recommended.
23. Gamera (Shout Factory) This is the very first film involving the giant turtle. It was shot in wide screen and glorious black and white. Shout brings us the definitive version....finally.
22. Cannibal Girls (Shout Factory) MGM dropped the ball on this one and Shout picked it up and gave it the release it so richly deserves. Three sexy women have men for dinner...literally.
21. Ellery Queen Mysteries (E1) This the complete series of 20 episodes. Jim Hutton plays Ellery Queen who helps his father solve murders. this show is a lot of fun and it was way ahead of it's time on TV. It inspired me to write and entire play in the 6th grade based on an Ellery Queen story!!
Next week I start the Top 20.......
