THE BLACK CAT 1941 (UNIVERSAL)

A fun Universal chiller.

Greedy relatives of an elderly woman gather at her house as her health slowly fades away. She is murdered and then an antiques dealer who is trying to by the estate tries to solve the murders.

There is a large amount of comedy in this old dark house thriller, but that is part of it's charm. Broderick Crawford is Hubert Smith who buys antiques. I recommend this for anyone who likes very light but entertaining movies of this era. The rest of the cast includes Basil Rathbone, Bela Lugosi, Anne Gwynne, Alan Ladd, Gale Sondergaard, Hugh Herbert and Gladys Cooper.
