THE REPTILE 19966 (ANCHOR BAY)

A classic Hammer gem.

A young couple inherit a small cottage after the man's brother dies a mysterious death. They soon find a plague is killing people in the town and nobody will talk about it.

We soon learn that a local Doctor of Theology has a daughter and he is being punished for crossing paths with a snake cult many years previous. The punishment being that his daughter is cursed to change into a reptile monster.

This film is pulled off very well and is very character driven with the direction of John Gilling. The monster is very well done, even though they had constant trouble with the make-up. Filmed back to back with Plague Of The Zombies, and using the same excellent sets, this Hammer gem is often overlooked in the annals of horror.

I would recommend this for any horror fan as it is a very well made film that deserves a better chance.
