ANGRY RED PLANET 1959 (SHOUT FACTORY/TIMELESS)

I just reviewed this a while back, but will do it again based on the new release.

Another Ib Melchior directed sci-fi film that never fails to entertain.

Gerald Mohr, Les Treymane, Nora Hayden and Jack Kruschen are four astronauts who land on Mars and find much more than they bargained for.

They find man eating plants, a weird bat/rat/spider mutant and a huge on celled monster than devours Kruschen and attempts to swallow the entire ship up as well.

The special effects have always fascinated me. I love the "Cinemagic" effect of making the martian landscape totally red and very weird looking, and the Martians themselves are odd looking and weird three eyed beings.

Two of the members return to earth safely, but on one of the tapes from the ship is a very stern warning to stay away from Mars. I always thought that was pretty cool as well. Good pulp sci-fi and a fun way to spend 80 minutes. Shout/Timeless has done very good with this disc of Movies 4 You and it seems like there is a lot more to come from them. Also included on the disc is "Man From Planet X", "Beyond The Time Barrier", Time Travelers" plus a stills gallery of each film.
