RETURN OF DR. X 1939 (WARNER)

The only horror film Humphrey Bogart ever made.

A young reporter and a doctor attempt to solve a series of murders in which all the victims are drained of blood, and some are even seen walking around again afterwards.

That is the plot to this wild 1939 horror film which stars Humphrey Bogart as a killer who needs blood to survive. Wayne Morris is the reporter on the case and Rosemary lane is the woman he likes.

The film has plenty of comedy as well as terror and even though Bogart hated this film he does an excellent job as the undead killer. What I thought was really disturbing was the background of Bogart's character, Marshall Quesne. In the film it is pointed out that he was executed for murder in the case of him slowly starving an infant to death as a scientific experiment!! Now that is twisted as hell.

The rest of the cast includes Olin Howland as the Undertaker, John Litel and Huntz Hall. Classic horror that is sadly neglected. A true underrated film. Recommended!
