THE TOP 50 DVD RELEASES OF 2013 PART 1

It's already that time of year again. This year had more interesting genre items turned out than the past few years and companies like Olive and Shout Factory lead the way with many, many releases that deserved a spot.

Ok, well here goes.....

50. SECONDS (CRITERION) A horrifying film starring Rock Hudson and directed by John Frankenheimer.

49. LEGENDS OF MID SOUTH WRESTLING (WWE) Great action from the golden days of wrestling..the 1980's.

48. JOHNNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT (SHOUT FACTORY) Finally after a very long wait this Japanese TV show finally comes to DVD with every episode.

47. THE HAUNTING (WARNER) The all time classic ghost story finally released on Blu-Ray and looking better than ever.

46. MURDER IS MY BEAT (WARNER ARCHIVE) Nifty crime drama directed by Edgar Ulmer and starring Paul Langton and the gorgeous Barbara Payton.

45. ECW UNRELEASED VOL. 2 (WWE) A terrific three disc set of some of the most brutal wrestling matches ever seen in ECW.

44. WAR GAMES: WCW'S MOST NOTORIOUS MATCHES (WWE) Another excellent set from WWE, this one traces the history of WCW and their "War Games" where 10 men battled in two cages in a series of matches which were held all over the country during the 80's and 90's.

43. DRACULA VS. FRANKENSTEIN (SHRIEK SHOW) The Al Adamson classic was released with absolutely NO fanfare on publicity!! This is simply the best looking version of this movie I have ever seen.

42. CREEPY CREATURES DOUBLE FEATURE VOL. 1 (VCI) This set has two movies, "Monster From the Ocean Floor" and "Serpent Island". The first is Roger Corman's first movie and the second is actually as adventure film directed by Bert I. Gordon. Good fun even in "Serpent Island" is a slow movie.

41. MOVIES 4 YOU: MILITARY COLLECTION: (SHOUT FACTORY/TIMELESS) The first of many sets turned out by Shout/Timeless over the course of 2013. This one consisted of "Hell Raiders" directed by Larry Buchanan, a film I have always liked for some odd reason, "Go For Broke" with Van Heflin, "Tank Battalion" and "Lost Battalion". If you like action films you can't go wrong with these.

Well that concludes the first 10...join me next week and we'll continue the list.
