THE UNKNOWN TERROR 1957 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Revisiting one of my favorites.

This has always been a favorite of mine because I find it so odd. A young woman and her husband lead an expedition to a small Mexican village to search for her missing brother.

They find instead, a scientist who has created a mysterious fungus that feeds on the locals and is threatening to grow until it devours the entire planet. This is a bizarre film full of same said imagery. John Howard is Dan Matthews whose wife Gina, played by the always sexy Mala Powers is the one looking for her brother. Paul Richards is Peter Morgan a man who was injured in a previous cave exploration trip with John.

The fungus monster is a unique one and so are the infected people. The mad doctor is played by veteran heavy Gerald Milton and his wife is the lovely May Wynn. All of these characters play off of each other very well andd for some reason it all meshes into an unforgettable movie, at least for me.

Some of the bizarre imagery I mentioned includes Mala running thru the jungle in a sheer negligee an the mad doctor Ramsey bullwhipping his wife for simply spilling a jar of what she thought was canned fruit. Strange but fun 50's horror like no other..and it even has Sir Lancelot singing a couple of calypso songs.
