BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRES 1966 (ALPHA)

Interesting and unusual Philippine horror film.

Also known as "Whisper To The Wind", this horror tale is about siblings who fin that their father has their mother chained up in the basement because she is a vampire. The mother bites the son, then he becomes one of the undead and soon everyone in town is either dead or a vampire.

Eddie Garcia is very good as the distraught son who becomes a somewhat reluctant vampire, but it is the performances of Romeo Vasquez and Amalia Fuentes that take the show. They are lovers and when he dies in an accident set up by Garcia, his ghost so loves her that it protects her from his vampiric advances.

She does however succumb to death and they are reunited in the spirit world. This angel is handled with great care and adds a very sympathetic plot element to the proceedings. I like this film a lot and I think any horror fan would. Gerry De Leon directed and star Amalia Fuentes won a Best Actress award for her performance. That award is a FAMAS, the Filipino equivalent of the Oscar.
