THE BIG SLEEP 1946 (WARNER)

An undisputedd film noir classic.

Humphrey Bogart stars as Philip Marlowe who is hired by a rich family to stop a blackmailer and slowly stumbles upon, murder and a very, very complex sort of love.

The chemistry between Bogart and Bacall is magnetic, and the dialogue between the two of them is typical of a Howard Hawks production. The deeper Marlowe digs, the more problems he discovers until the viewer really isn't able to follow the plot, but the film still works.

I won't go into much detail on the plot here because I don't want to give anything away for anyone who hasn't seen this film, but suffice to say, they don't make films like this anymore.

William Faulkner co-wrote this film based on the Raymond Chandler novel which is a very complex piece of work and it should please any film noir fan. The rest of the cast includes Martha Vickers, Dorothy Malone (in an unforgettable role as a book store owner who REALLY likes Marlowe), Regis Toomey, Bob Steel and Elisha Cook, Jr.

There was never a team like Bogart and Bacall an there never will be. See this film. It is required viewing.
