GODZILLA FINAL WARS 2004 (SONY)

This was the film that celebrated Godzilla's 50th birthday.

This is a somewhat mixed bag of a film, but very entertaining anyway. Aliens have invaded the earth and are controlling all of the earth's monsters, much like in the film Destroy All Monsters.

The Earth Defense Force, led by Douglas Gordon, played by Don Frye, find they cannot defeat all the monsters so they release Godzilla, who has been trapped in a glacier. There are so many monsters who appear in this film and they include Ebirah, Rodan, Kumonga, Manda, Gigan, Mothra, Angurius, King Caesar, Ghidorah and Kamacuras.

Various cities around the world are destroyed as Godzilla. Mothra and EDF attempt to fight what looks like a losing battle. The effects are top notch for the most part and this is an excellent film for the Godzilla 50th celebration.

The rest of the cast is made up of new Japanese actors and a few favorites such as Akira Takarada, Kenji Sahara and Kumi Mizuno.

The Blu-ray makes the movie look better than it has before and I cannot recommend it enough. All of the Godzilla films I have reviewed over the last six weeks or so have been released because of the new film that came out in May. I haven't seen it yet andd probably won't, I prefer to stick to the Godzilla films I love so well.
