PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES 1965 (MGM)

I haven't seen this is a while.

Mario Bava directed this film about the crew of a spaceship that gets stranded on a weird, fog enshrouded planet.

As soon as they crash land they begin attacking each other, but the Captain, played by Barry Sullivan breaks them up as he is the only one not affected. All of the crew members of the second ship are found dead and are buried.

An investigation leads the survivors to believe they are being watched by a race of invisible beings and soon those being inhabit the bodies of the dead. The scene where the corpses rise is easily the most eerie in the entire film, and very well done.

Sullivan and his crew fight for survival against these creatures until the final which is a pretty neat twist ending. Bava handles the film in his usual classic style and brings a lot of Gothic horror into the sci-fi world.

The rest of the cast includes Norma Bengall, Angel Aranda, Evi Mirandi and Ivan Rassimov. This is supposed to be coming to Blu-ray later this year so keep an eye out if you haven't already seen this film.
