THE THING 1951 (WARNER)

Time to revisit an all time classic.

One of my favorite films of all time, this gem I first saw in KSTW TV out of Seattle or somewhere in Washington state when I was in grade school, and it has stuck with me ever since.

Ken Tobey is Capt. Hendry, the leader of a small group of me in the Arctic who are called to a very remote outpost of scientists who are conducting experiments. They find they have to investigate what may be a jet crash only to discover a spaceship buried in the ice.

After an unsuccessful attempt to get the saucer out they discover it's passenger is also frozen and take him back to the outpost instead. He thaws out of the block of ice and is soon running loose, killing people for their blood to nourish it.

This is great stuff folks, and the overlapping dialogue and snappy patter between the men make it all the more real. Robert Cornthwaite is Dr. Carrington, who is obsessed with saving the creature no matter what the cost. Howard Hawks is said to have directed most of this film and that could very well be true.

There are many unforgettable moments in this 86 min. film and the one that always stands out is where they men try and burn The Thing. See this movie if you haven't already, and if you have watch it again. It's a film you never tire of seeing.
