QUATERMASS 2 1957 (ANCHOR BAY)

A few days ago I reviewed the stunning Blu-ray of "Quatermass Xperiment" and now I just had to revisit the sequel, which is just a good yet sadly out of print on US DVD.

Brian Donlevy is back as the ill tempered scientist Bernard Quatermass. When the film starts, he has been run off the road by a woman traveling with a man whose face has been burned by a mysterious rock. Little attention is paid to this until Quatermass and his friend Marsh visit a small town that has been destroyed and the same thing happens to Marsh.

Slowly but surely,a mass conspiracy is uncovered. Aliens have set up a base of operations and are breeding huge creatures who can take over the Earth.

There are some great moments in this including the scene where a politician who wants to get to the bottom of things happens to die in a very grisly way, right in front of the Professor. The film ranks right up there with the first one in story telling an suspense.

I would love to see this finally released on Blu-ray and i can only hope, but for now there is this hard to find disc that will have to suffice. The rest of the cast includes gorgeous Vera Day, Sidney James, Brian Forbes, John Longdon and Percy Herbert.
