WEREWOLF SHADOW 1971 (ANCHOR BAY)

My favorite Paul Naschy film.

I watched this again last week and never fail to be entertained by it. I first saw this under the title "Werewolf Vs. The Vampire Woman" and never forgot it. As a child I saw the trailer and it scared the crap out of me.

Naschy is Waldemar Daninski and he is brought back to life by two men who remove the bullets from his heart during an autopsy. Later we see two gorgeous women played by Gaby Fuchs and Barbara Capell who are looking for some mysterious ancient tomb. They stumble upon Waldemar and he helps them find it.

It is the tomb of a long dead vampire named Countess Wandessa. Capell cuts herself and her blood brings the bloodthirsty creature back to life. Capell becomes the first victim and then begins to walk the night with Wandessa.

Naturally the big battle between Daninski and Wandessa occurs during the final few minutes of the film, but the build up is done very well. The Countess is played by none other than Patty Sheppard and she makes for such a sexy blood drinker. Fuchs and Capell are gorgeous and always a pleasure to look at.

Naschy does the werewolf routine again, and he does it very well as is expected. This is the totally uncut version with a couple of scenes in Spanish with English subtitles. Good fun for any monster movie fan.
