RIP VILMOS SZIGMOND 1930-2016

One of my very good friends passed away on Jan. 1st.

What can I possibly say here except that the film world is now devoid of any great cinematographers. Vilmos worked on some of the greatest films ever made including "CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND", "DEER HUNTER" plus many, many more.

I first met Vilmos when I worked with him on "HEAVEN'S GATE". I never met a more kind and warm individual and when I found out the he had worked on another friends movies it was instant "karma". He worked on Al Adamson films and Ray Steckler movies before movies to Academy award winning films. His debut was director of photography for the Arch hall film, "THE SADIST".

Vilmos took the time from the very hectic schedule of "HEAVEN'S GATE" to watch a film I had made about a Driftwood circus and was very complimentary about it, and he gave me some tips about how to photograph it.

The film business has lost a genius and I have lost a good friend. He was 85.
