HEROD THE GREAT 1959 (MILL CREEK)

Interesting film from Allied Artists.

Edmund Purdom stars as Herod, King Of Judea who is not liked too well by his people. He has been defeated by the Romans and his partnership with Anthony and Cleopatra ended in disaster.

He is captured by the Romans and his people assume he is dead based on what they have heard. His faithful Lieutenant, Aaron is unable to kill the queen after Herod is presumed dead because he has fallen in love with her. Queen marium is played by the gorgeous Sylvia Lopez, whose career and life were cut tragically short.

Mill Creek presents a pretty good widescreen print of this film, and i found the film to hold my attention. It's more of an epic drama than a sword and sandal film, but it is interesting none the less.

Purdom does a good job as Herod and rally knows how to act crazy and lustful at the same time. Alberto Lupo appeared in Atom Age Vampire the next year.
