RIP MICHAEL CIMINO 1939-2016

The first director I ever worked for in the motion picture business has passed away.\

The director of such films as "Deer Hunter", "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and "Heaven's Gate" has died at the age of 77.

Cimino was my boss on "Heaven's Gate" back in 1979 and while it wasn't a very pleasant experience, I did learn a lot from it. I respected the man for wanting to make "his" vision of the movie and finally getting it done.

That single film destroyed his career, but if you ever get a chance to see the totally uncut version of the film, you will never forget it.

Like him or hate him, Cimino left a legacy behind him that will not be forgotten. Winning the oscar for "Deer Hunter" and then following it up with a career ending film. Makes the mind boggle.

As of this writing, no cause of death has been determined.
