MARK OF THE DEVIL 1970 (SINISTER CINEMA)

A few weeks ago I reviewed Mark of The Devil 2, and now I have the original.

This is the infamous gem that caused quite a commotion when it came out in 1970 due to it's great ad campaign.

A young witch hunting apprentice (Udo Kier) and his teacher (Herbert Lom) arrive in a small town where witch craft has been reported.

Both are appalled by the way a local witch hunter named Albino (Reggie Nalder) has been handling things. The apprentice named Christian is not always happy with the way the people are judged as witches and when a young woman he loves is arrested he attempts to get her released thru legal means.

The corrupt witchhunter played by Lom is caught by Christian killing Albino and then all hell breaks loose.

This film has plenty of torture scenes and is very brutal. The releasing company handed out barf bags to patrons upon first release, and this cleaver idea has gone down in history as one of the greatest acts of Ballyhoo ever.

Not a bad film by any means, and if you like these kinds of movies, then this is for you. The print is excellent.
