PHANTOM EMPIRE 1988 (RETROMEDIA)

Very entertaining Fred Olen Ray gem.

It had been a long time since I saw this, and I found it to be just as much fun as the first time.

Yes, the title was taken from a 30's serial of which this borrows many ideas and scenes. In the opening minutes, a hideous monster from a cave enter a park and kills a man before being killed itself.

This leads to the discovery that the creature was wearing rare jewels around it's neck and soon a young woman named Denea Susan Stokey) to hire two adventurers called C&C Salvage to help her locate the jewels. Cort (Ross Hagen) and Eddy (Dawn Wildsmith) agree and soon an expedition is formed.

Cort also brings along Dr. Strock (Robert Quarry) and his assistant Andrew Paris (Jeffrey Combs). The expedition travels to a mysterious underground world where they find cavewomen, cannibals, Robby The Robot and Sybil Danning as an alien female trying to get back to her home planet.

There is plenty of comedy and adventure in this light hearted movie. Ray knows how to make this kind of stuff better than anyone especially during the 80's and 90's. This is a very good film I can recommend for people who love escapism and can put their minds on silent and enjoy.

The rest of the cast includes Russ Tamblyn, Michelle Bauer, and Michael Sonye.
