TERROR IS A MAN 1959 (ALPHA)

This is the first!!!!

The very first horror film from the Philippines and the one that started a great line of horror, exploitation, WIP and crime films that lasted for about 25 years or more.

Richard Derr stars as William Fitzgerald, a man washed up on an island after a shipwreck. He is discovered by a scientist living on the island named Charles Girard played by Francis Lederer.

When Fitzgerald wakes up he finds out that a small group of people populate the island, but live in fear. He also discovers the doctor's wife, Frances (gorgeous Greta Thyssen). One night the village is attacked by a mysterious creature and the entire population flees in terror, never to return.

Dr. Girard explains his work to Fitzgerald. He is trying to speed up and change the evolutionary process in man, and he has been experimenting on a black panther for 2 years. He now has a cross between a panther and a human. It escapes once in a while and must be caught.

This, of course, is a rip off of "Island Of Dr. Moreau", but it's an effective little chiller and I was surprised how nice the Alpha print looks. This was the final feature film for Lederer although he would make a few TV appearances after this.

The producers Kane Lynn and Eddie Romero made a fortune on this film and made man, many more such films over the years. If you haven't seen it, check it out sometime. Watch out for the 'warning bell".
