TERROR BY NIGHT 1946 (MPI)

This film and the follow up "Dressed To Kill" have been the easiest Sherlock Holmes film to see as they are all over the place on public domain labels. Sadly, they are in terrible shape on those labels.

Thankfully MPI has restored this and "Dressed To Kill" and both look fantastic.

This entry takes place mostly on a train. The Star Of Rhodesia, a very expensive jewel has been stolen and someone has been killed. Holmes and Watson were hired to keep the jewel safe and it appears they have failed.

While in route from London to Edinburgh Holmes and Watson try to solve the murder and get the jewel back. There is no shortage of suspects including a very lovely woman named Vivian Vedder (Renee Godfry) who seems to have more to hide than anyone.

The movie runs only an hour and moves along very briskly. There is a great scene involving Holmes and a killer named Sands (Skelton Knaggs) who attempts to kick Holmes of the train literally.

Dennis Hoey is on hand again as Inspector Lestrade. If you've only seen the PD version of this film, check out the restored version!! Beautiful.
