RAMBLINGS...MY TOP 10 BLAXPLOITATION FILMS

Another favorite genre of mine and one that has way too many favorites, but here is my top 10.

10. THE SLAMS 1973...Jim Brown stars in this tough action film. JUDY PACE...what more can I say?

9. LADY COCOA 1975...Lola Falana stars as a young woman who is being protected by the police before she testifies against a crazy mob boss. Good and tight little film and Falana is hot as ever.

8. BOSS NIGGER 1975...Fred Williamson wrote and stars in this fun film about a black man becoming the Sheriff of a small western town full of racists. One of the most unique films I have ever seen.

7. COOL BREEZE 1972...A criminal gang plots to rob a bank and start a new bank with the money. Thalmus Rasulala and JUDY PACE star in this film which also features Pam Grier in a small role.

6. CLEOPATRA JONES 1973...Tamara Dobson stands 6'2" and is well worth the climb in this great action film in which she plays a government agent stopping drug dealers. From the first time I saw this back in the 70's I have never forgotten it.

5. TRUCK TURNER 1974...Violent and extremely well made crime thriller about a bounty hunter named Truck Turner who becomes the intended victim of a hit put on him by a beautiful Madame played by Nichelle Nichols. Once seen, this film is not forgotten. Isaac Hayes turns in a dynamite performance.

4. FOXY BROWN 1974...Stunning beauty Pam Grier stars a Foxy Brown, a woman who takes on the mobsters who murdered her brother. Jack Hill handled the directing chores. Pam is always welcome in films like this.

3. BLACULA 1972...This is a movie mocked for it's titles, but it's an intelligent horror film with a very sympathetic vampire played by William Marshall. Vonetta McGee is simply stunning to look at. One of the best horror films of the 70's.

2. COTTON COMES TO HARLEM 1970...Two undercover cops investigate a crooked preacher who is stealing black people's money. There are too many things I could say in praise of this film!! Ossie David directed this gem and in my opinion JUDY PACE steals the entire show. If you wonder why I have such a fixation with this woman just watch this film and see why.

1. COFFY 1973...Pam Grier is Coffy, a black nurse who turns vigilante on the drug dealers who gave drugs to her kid sister. Grier is not only gorgeous but turns in what I consider to be her best performance ever in this violent and shocking film that I think everyone should see. Once again Jack Hill handled the directing chores. The first 10 minutes of this movie will blow your mind (no pun intended). A true American film classic.

There you have my top 10 for this genre, a genre that is sadly no longer with us.
