TERROR STREET 1953 (KIT PARKER)

Another fine film noir from Hammer Studios.

Montgomery Tully handled the directing chores on this interesting little crime drama.

Dan Duryea stars as Major Bill Rogers, an American army pilot AWOL from the states. He's gone AWOL in order to see his wife whom he loves very much.

When he finally gets to see her you're under the impression that both of them hate each other, but that is the magic of film noir, it changes so rapidly. They both still love one another, but the wife has fallen in with some bad characters. She is killed and he is framed for her murder.

Rogers has only 36 hours to prove himself innocent. That is all the time he has before they find out he has left the base without permission. There are plenty of shady characters as Rogers slowly uncovers who killed his wife and framed him.

Elsie Albiin is very good in the role of Katie Rogers, the ill fated wife. Gudrun Ure is also very good as the young woman who helps Rogers uncover the mystery.

The film moves along at a brisk pace, and it's always a treat to watch Duryea who was one of the best actors in his day. The film ends on a somewhat bittersweet note, and the viewer knows Rogers will always be a broken man because of the murder of his wife, whom he loved with all hie heart.

The cast also includes Hammer regular Harold Lang. Recommended for Noir fans.
