I hadn't seen this film for over 20 years and had pretty much forgotten it. Well that has been corrected now.
Made in 1976 but not released in the USA until 1977, this is an interesting and very bizarre film. A young woman named Daniela Neseri (Annik Borel)believes she has inherited a family curse from over 200 years ago and can turn into a werewolf.
This really leads to some trouble as she goes into a rage whenever she is sexually aroused and bites out the throats of men. She appears cured after a while and she lives quietly with her father. Her beautiful sister Elena (Dagmar Lassander) comes to visit along with her husband.
Daniela watches the couple have sex and then lures the husband outside and proceeds to rip his throat out. Again she is put in a mental hospital and after a while she manages to escape after another patient unties her from a bed and Daniela repays her by stabbing her.
She finally meets a man that has a actual love for her and this appears to have a very calming effect on Daniela. The animal urges stop and she begins to enjoy a normal life, that is until she is savagely raped by three thugs who also kill the loving man she was living with. Daniela is pushed over the edge and seeks revenge.
This, to me anyway is an excellent example of Italian horror and sexploitation. I believe I forgot about this film because many years ago I saw a horrible and edited print. There is plenty of nudity from both beautiful leads, Annik Borel and Dagmar Lassander along with plenty of gore and more profanity than I have heard in a lot of films.
The make-up for the werewolf woman is pretty damn interesting, and while it isn't the best, it will stick in your mind, at least I hope so.
The print from Alpha wasn't too bad. It was at least widescreen and very watchable. If you're so inclined, you might want to check this out. Unusual to say the least.
