THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN 1957 (UNIVERSAL)

One of the all time classic 50's sci-fi films.

It's hard to believe I have never written about this film on this blog.

Grant Williams stars as Scott Carey, a man who while on a boat with his wife, is exposed to a strange mist that happens by. They both think nothing of it until Scott begins to get smaller.

As he shrinks his marriage and his life fall apart. Carey is eventually reduced to living in a doll house and fighting for his life against what was a friendly pet house cat. He eventually shrinks so tiny that his wife thinks he's dead, but in reality he is trapped in a nightmare world called a basement.

Carey has to fight a tarantula for food and face many other terrors until the final denouement. This is an intelligent, well made film from Jack Arnold from the story by Richard Matheson. The effects are top notch and Carey gives a great performance as the man whose life is tragically changed thru no fault of his own. The rest of the cast includes April Kent, Randy Stuart and Paul Langton.

This is now out on Blu-ray and I have not purchased it yet as I really don't feel the need. The print on this Universal set called :Ultimate Sci-Fi Collection" is excellent and I have no need for an upgrade.

If you haven't seen this film and you get the chance, check it out. An all time American classic.
