Howard Vernon stars as Dr. Orloff, a former prison doctor who along with his servant Morpho, kidnap beautiful women for evil scientific purposes.
Orloff needs the skin of the women to try and restore the scarred face of his daughter Melissa. Several disappearances attract the interest of Inspector Tanner (Conrado San Martin). However, Orloff is no fool and makes his tracks very hard to follow.
Tanner's girlfriend Wanda Bronsky (Diana Lorys) tries to help him solve the crime. She deliberately sets herself up to be kidnapped. Her plan works, but will Tanner be able to rescue her in time?
This is actually the film that put director Jess Franco on the map. It still holds up very well today. The black and white photography and gothic atmosphere add much to the film.
Ricardo Valle's performance as Morpho is unforgettable. Not only is the character name bizarre, but the entire look of his face is one of twisted horror. Franco followed this theme in many of his movies with great success.
Diana Lorys is beautiful as always and would appear in other Franco films as well as many other Euro horror films. The rest of the cast includes Perla Crystal, Maria Silva and Mara Laso. Recommended!!
