PLANET OF DINOSAURS 1977 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Interesting low budget film.

A spaceship crashes on a mysterious planet that is much like Earth. The survivors soon discover that while no human life is to be found, there is plenty of other life there in the form of prehistoric monsters.

The monsters are done with stop motion animation and are well handled by Doug Beswick and crew. There are some unusual monsters including a creepy giant spider and a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The acting is well done for a largely unknown cast with the best performance coming from James Whitworth as Jim, one of the officers fighting for survival. The very first death scene is somewhat shocking as one of the female crew members is attacked by a water monster that devours her quickly.

By the end of the film there are only 5 crew members left and they have come to realize that this new planet will forever be there home. This is a fun little movie that has received a lot of bad reviews and that kind of surprises me. Well maybe it doesn't considering the movie goers of today.

However, I would recommend this film and the print from Sinister is from a very good 16mm version. If you enjoy these types of films I suggest you check it out.
