RIP DARYL DRAGON 1942-2019

This year has really gotten off to a bad start.

Another of the people who shaped my musical tastes has died.

Dragon was better known as the Captain of Captain and Tennille fame. Daryl was a classically trained musician and played keyboards with the Beach Boys before joining Toni Tennille.

Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon divorced after almost 40 years of marriage in 2014, but she moved to Arizona to care for him and was at his side when he died of renal failure today at the age of 76. That is true love.

During the 70's the Captain and Tennille had a long string of hits including "Muskrat Love", "Love Will Keep Us Together", "Shop Around" and "Do That To Me One More Time" in 1980. They also had a short lived TV variety show which I watched religiously.

I collected every one of their LP's and 45's and my personal favorite was "Can't Stop Dancin'" Dragon got the nickname "Captain" from Beach Boy Mike Love when Love noted how Dragon loved those kinds of hats.

As a 70's music fanatic, this death is a real blow. RIP Captain.
