GIRLS IN CHAINS 1943 (SINISTER CINEMA)

A great exploitation title.

Edgar G. Ulmer directed this interesting little film from PRC.

Arline Judge stars as Helen Martin, a young woman whose sister is dating a top crime boss in the city. She loses her job because of the association her sister has.

Helen then takes a position at a correctional institute for girls which just happens to be run by a flunky working for above mention crime boss Johnny Moon (Jack Randall). Helen tries to bring reform, but is stopped at every turn.

Helen works with the police in trying to stop Moon and all comes crashing down when a young woman from the institute is murdered and all the evidence point to Moon.

This is a fast moving drama and believe it or not it's also got some good characters and a grim story line for a small picture from PRC. It's entertaining and the rest of the cast includes Barbara Pepper, Robin Raymond, Sid Melton and Patricia Knox. It's interesting to note that both Pepper and Melton would go on to star in the 1960's comedy classic called "Green Acres".

If you're looking for a great way to kill 75 minutes I would recommend this. You could do a lot worse. Ulmer knew how to handle fast shooting schedules and quick camera set ups.
