THE STRANGENESS 1985 (CODE RED)

A utterly bizarre little film.

This is a pretty cool $25,000 wonder directed by Melanie Anne Phillips using the name David Michael Hillman for reasons I cannot even begin to fathom.

Anyway this film centers around a group of people who are exploring and surveying an abandoned mine to see if it can be opened again. After a series of mishaps the group finds themselves at the mercy of a bizarre monster that defies description.

The creature feeds on those it kills and no reason is given for it being there, which is fine with me. The creature is a stop motion animation monster and those effects are done well. I am surprised they used stop motion considering the low budget.

The cast is made up of unknowns, but they do a good enough job. This does indeed remind me of such films as "The Boogens" but I think this film can hold it's own.

I have read a lot of reviews that tear the film apart, but that's way too easy to do. This was a first effort by everyone involved, and I think they did a pretty good job. I like the monster even if you don't see it enough. Terri Berland makes a very beautiful leading lady.

If you haven't seen this little low budget gem I suggest you check it out. A sadly neglected, but pretty well made film.
