SHE DEVIL 1934 (ALPHA)

Also known as Drums O' Voodoo.

Sack Amusement brigs us a bizarre all black horror film. The plot centers on a sleazy character who preys on women.

He wants to turn a preachers niece into a prostitute. Preacher Amos Berry (Gus Smith) will not stand for this and vows to protect his niece at any cost. His niece is a lovely woman played by Edna Barr.

The film mixes Southern Baptist religion and Voodoo very well, and it looks like a filmed stage play. I enjoyed the movie, but the presentation is what bothered me.

First off is the running time. I have seen 70 minutes listed in many reviews, but the Alpha edition only runs 48 minutes and yes, there are jump cuts so I can only assume some footage is missing.

Secondly, I know the old saying is true "You get what you pay for" but for God's sake Alpha did a crappy job with this film. It jumps way too much which shows that Alpha has no quality control.

A lousy presentation can always ruin a good viewing experience and this is true in this case. I liked the film, but hated how it's been presented here.
