ONE NIGHT IN THE TROPICS 1940 (UNIVERSAL)

This is the very first movie that introduced Abbott & Costello to the American public.

Allan Jones stars as Jim Moore, an insurance salesman who comes up with a novel policy for his friend Steve (Robert Cummings). It's called a "love insurance policy".

This is to make sure that Steve marries his fiancee, Cynthia (Nancy Kelly). Needless to say that many complications crop up and there is a chance that the policy may not work which would put the company out by one million dollars.

Abbott and Costello have third and fourth billing as two bumbling con men who work for a racketeer. Their comedy bits are the highlight of the entire film, which was actually a flop for Universal, but Bud and Lou got a contract out of it, and the rest is history.

The rest of the cast includes William Frawley, Peggy Moran, Leo Carillo, Mary Boland and Nina Orla.

If you check this out, you'll instantly know why Abbott & Costello had a huge career ahead of them. Their introduction at a gambling table is a highlight as well as the classic "Who's On First" which the briefly do.
