THE MUTATIONS 1976 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Strange film I hadn't seen for years.

Jack Cardiff directed this effort starring Donald Pleasence as Prof. Nolter, a slightly twisted man who believes that he can create a new life form.

He uses some of his young students in bizarre experiments in which Nolter mixes their DNA with that of plants. This makes for some very bizarre creations indeed.

Nolter is aided by a deformed freak of a man named Lynch (Tom Baker) whom Nolter has promised to help become normal after his experiments are successful. There are some great creatures in this film, but the standout mutation is the "Venus Flytrap Man". This creation is something to see indeed and makes Nolter pay for his crimes in the end.

The film is a combination of the 1932 "Freaks" and many a mad scientist effort. I remember seeing many pics of this film in the pages of Famous Monsters back in the 70's and always wanted to see it.

It's not a bad effort and the rest of the cast includes Brad Harris, Julie Ege, Michael Dunn, and Jill Haworth.
