MEGA SCORPIONS 2003 (TUBI)

J. R. Bookwalter directed this modern take on old monster movies.

I stumbled onto this film by accident and decided to give it a try.

There is nothing new here as a bunch of scorpions feed on nuclear waste that a corporation has been illegally dumping and they begin to grow to six feel in length. It literally seems to happen overnight since the opening scenes show us the chemicals or whatever being dumped and then immediately switches to a young couple being slaughtered in their living room by the monsters.

The creatures are not CGI and that is a major plus. The creatures look pretty good, but you really don't get to see them enough or in the daytime. I was surprised to see Jay Richardson in this film. I like almost everything he has done, especially his roles in Fred Olen Ray films. Here he plays a very crooked politician who gets slaughtered by the scorpions.

As I stated there is nothing new here, but it can be fun at times. I don't know anyone else in the cast except Brinke Stevens and a surprise appearance at the very end by Sunny Leone, but I do know this was made as part of a proposed deal between 20th Century Fox and Full Moon, but the deal fell thru.

If you get a chance to see it you might like it. I also couldn't help but notice that the scorpions make a very similar sound as the ones in the 1957 film "Black Scorpion". I believe this is a kind of homage to that film.
