THE SCAVENGERS 1968 (SOMETHING WEIRD)

Interesting and offbeat film which I enjoyed, but be warned that snowflakes of the 21st century won't be able to understand this movie.

Bob Cresse wrote this gem and Lee Frost directed it and that should tell you something if you're familiar with these two men and some of their other movies.

The movie revolves around a band of Confederate soldiers who are kept in the dark as much as possible by their commander named Capt. Steve Harris (John Bliss).

Bliss has his men believing that the Civil War is still on and that they are going to be hijacking a bounty of 300,000 dollars from a Union payroll wagon.

There turns out to be much less money than they expected so they begin a spree of rape and torture to find out where the rest of the money is. Harris lets his men rape and abuse a beautiful black woman who was a passenger on the wagon train. She manages to escape and gets a band of ex-slaves to help her.

This brings about the bloody climax as the ex-slaves fight the weary confederate madmen. This is not a "fun" film to watch, but it's not a "bad" movie either.

The women are all beautiful as was usual in this time period, and the film does many things filmmakers would never do in this day and age. It covers many taboo subjects that everyone seems scared to speak of these days.

Anyway, if you get the chance I Highly Recommend this unsung gem. The cast also includes Maria Lease, Roda Spain, Wes Bishop, Bruce Kimball, Uschi Digard and Karin Swanson.
