99 WOMEN 1969 (BLUE UNDERGROUND)

Jess Franco brings us the grandaddy of all WIP films starring Maria Rohm, Rosalba Neri, Maria Schell, Mercedes McCanbridge and Herbert Lom.
Luciana Paluzzi has a small part as a drug addict who dies in this prison hell run by McCambridge whose  performance is very over the top and quite bizarre.
Herbert Lom is in charge of the male prisoners on another island and he visits the women's prison for sexual favors and other fun.
Jess Franco directes with aplomb and vigor as is usual and if you are looking for very good WIP fun, this is the film for you. It did set the standard for these kinds of films and once seen is not soon forgotten. It is very depressing and downbeat and ends rather bleakly.
Check it out.
