RIP DAVY JONES 1945-2012

Lead singer of the 1960's singing group The Monkees has died at the age of 66 from a massive heart attack. During the 60's they had a string of hits including "Daydream Believer", "I'm A Believer and many more. They also had their own TV show which ran from 1966-1968.
Jones was one of the most prolific songwriters during the 60's and a true talent that will be missed.

SCORNED 1994 (DVD-R)

This is probably Shannon Tweed's greatest film!!! She playes an absolutely sexy as heel woman out to avenge the suicide of her husband by slowly destroying the man who took his job and in the process she manages to seduce his young son and his wife!!
Andrew Stevens stars and directs with flair. Shannon all but steals the show as she somes to the family as a tutor for their teenage son and quickly seduces him with some of the sexiest outfits and ways I have seen in a film.
The kid is one lucky bastard!! If you get a chance check this one out and you will not be disappointed.

A PLACE CALLED TODAY 1972 (DVD-R)

A very well made film about a young black lawyer running for Mayor in a large city and all the racial tension he creates to win the race.
The film may be timely today as all American elections are run on dishonesty and crime, this film really packs a wallop. Lana Wood is an activist helping the lawyer with his election and gorgeous Cheri Caffaro is the daughter of a high and mighty political backer who really flaunts her body and actually gives the best political speech i have ever heard!!
J. Herbert Kerr Jr. gives a great performance as the young black lawyer on the rise and who soon regrets what her has done, especially when he orders Caffaro raped and killed to make a point about violence.
If you get a chance, see this film, you won't forget it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO.....

CLICK: THE CALENDAR GIRL KILLER 1990 (MILL CREEK)

Usually I like movies such as this made by exploitation actors turned director, but this one is...well...just damn hard to like.
Ross Hagen stars as a man who takes pictures of women for calendars but is also a secret cross dressing killer who slaughters people because of what his nurse did to him at a very young age.
Hagen is usually good in everything he does, but in this he falls a little short in both acting and directing. This film is very hard to follow and sometimes very hard to watch.
If you must see it then feel warned, it is not for everyone..and I know it wasn't for me.

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN 1948 (UNIVERSAL)

The second best comedy in the entire film world behind Airplane. Bud and Lou are baggage men who get involved with a young woman who is seeking Lou's brain to put into the Frankenstein monster.
The laughs are rapid fire and some will have you rolling on the floor.
Glenn Strange in the Frankenstein Monster, Bela Lugosi is Dracula, Lon Chaney, Jr. is The Wolfman and at the end of the movie the voice of Vincent Price is the Invisible Man.
This is true film prefection folks and it was made at the end of the Universal monster era which ran from 1930-1948. Highly Recommended!!

AIRPLANE 1980 (PARAMOUNT)

The funniest movie ever made in my opinion. This slapstick spoof  of Airport  is the kind of movie you have to watch a few times to catch all the gags in the films. Robert Hays stars as a man who has a fear of flying since the war and must confront those fears when he is forced to land a troubled jet liner.
The laughs comea mile a second in this top notch film from Jerry and David Zucker and Jim Abrahams.
I cannot recommend this film enough if you are down and need a laugh. Films don't get any better than this.
The cast is stellar including Hays, Julie Hagerty, Leslie Neilsen, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and many, many more.

BIRTHDAY WISHES TO.....

Marta Kristen is 63, Cliff Osmond is 75, and Fats Domino is 84.

THE SPIDER WOMAN 1944 (MPI)

Sherlock Holmes matches wits with a very deadly female played by Gale Sondegaard. He investigates a series of "Pajama Suicides" and finds thay are being caused by an evil female who uses spiders to kill her victims.
Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are Holmes and Watson and Sondegaard is perfect for the role of  Adrea Spedding, the evil woman behind all the crime.
One of the best of the many films with Rathbone in the lead role and much better than any of this modern day crap they call Sherlock Holmes in the movies today. Highly Recommended!!

MAN IN OUTER SPACE 1965 (SINISTER CINEMA)

I hadn;t seen this film in 44 years, and finally Sinister gave me the chance and it is a very witty comedy sci-fi film that pokes fun at greed in out society. A janitor is accidently blasted into space and returns to earth 500 years later with an alien companion, and finds Earth has changed much since his day.
This is a fun film made actually in 1962 in Czechoslovakia and released here by AIP in 1965. Light hearted fun and good entertainment for everyone.
A huge thanks to Sinister Cinema for finally making this rare film available again.

RIP LINA ROMAY 1954-2012

Exploitation actress and Jess Franco regular has died of cancer at the age of 57. Romay was known to probably everyone who even looks at this blog for her work with Jess Franco including such films as Barbed Wire Dolls, Faceless. White Cannibal Queen and hundreds of others.
A huge loss for Euro horror fans.

RIP BILLY STRANGE 1930-2012

The man responsible for the musical arrangement of such classic songs as These Boots Are Made For Walking by Nancy Sinatra, Somethin' Stupid for Nancy and her father Frank Sinatra and many, many more has passed away at the age of 81 in Nashville.
He was also a member of "The Wrecking Crew" which was a group of session musicians in LA during the 1960's. A true music talent is lost.

DRAGSTRIP GIRL 1957 (DVD-R)

This was actually the first time I have ever had to view this 50's JD film, and of course I loved the hell out of it.
Steve Terrill and John Ashley are two young men who constantly compete with each other with cars and women. Ashley goes too far and actually causes the death of a man on the highway.
Fay Spain is the girl they both want. Frank Gorshin is comic relief and his girl friend is played by sexy as hell Judy Bamber in her first movie. Bamber was always a great sight to see in movies and gave up acting in the mid 60's to raise a family.
Tommy Ivo, Russ Bender and Tito Vuolo round out the cast. Directed with ther usual flair by Edward L. Cahn, this drive in hit shouldn't be missed by movie lovers who remember the days gone by from the fab 50's.

THE UNCANNY 1977 (SINISTER CINEMA)

Unique anthology movie with Peter Cushing as a man who has evidence that cats are slowly planning on taking over mankind. He visits an editor for his new book about the subject, and hence the three tale sare told. The editor played by Ray Milland is skeptical but listens anyway.
The tales involve a maid trying to steal her employers Last Will and Testament, A young, lonely child and her black cat and a crazed movie actor who kills some kittens.
It is interesting to note that all the stories make the cats seem perfectly normal and the people cruel and crazy, which is actually the case in real life anyway.
Donald Pleasence, Samantha Eggar, John Vernon, and many others make this a winner for fans of anthology films. Made in Canada, this film seems to have fallen thru thr cracks of many horror fans lists of movies to see. Sinister offers up a delicious print at a great price. Recommended!!

DEVONSVILLE TERROR 1983 (ANCHOR BAY)

Ulli Lommel strikes again with this well made thriller about three women who come to a small Wisconsin town and are accused of witchcraft by the descendants of people cursed 300 years previous during an inquisition.
Lovely Suzanna Love is the new school teacher accused of being a witch. It seems she and the other two are sent to the town to make sure justice is served 300 years later and it becomes very clear at the end that this is the case.
Love is excellent as always and Llommel does a good job behind the camera. Donal Pleasence is Dr. Warley a man with a peculiar skin disease who is always picking worms out of his open wounds!! Yowza!!
Good film and good acting make this a winner. Recommended.

AT MIDNIGHT I'LL TAKE YOUR SOUL 1964 (SINISTER CINEMA)

I had never seen a "Coffin Joe" film until Embodiment Of Evil from 2008. This is the first time director and star Jose Marins appeared as Joe and the film is a knockout. I loved this! Made with very little money but a lot of ambition, this film succeeds on all levels.
Marins character of "Coffin Joe" is seeking a woman to bear his child and keep his bloodline going. He kills many people including his live in girl friend, and her death is caused by a huge spider Joe puts on her to bite her. That scene really creeped me out and that spider isn't a fake Hollywood one, it is damn real. The actress should be commended!!
The scene disolves are done by cracking glass, page turns and many other things not seen in USA movies for years to come.
This is an excellent place to get aquanted with Marins films. Highly Recommended for all horror fans.

BIRTHDAY WISHES TO....

Drew Barrymore is 37, James Hong is 83, Jonathan Demme is 68, and Karin Dor is 74.

FROM HELL IT CAME 1957 (WARNER ARCHIVES)

Everyone who has ever known me is well aware of my total love for horror and sci-fi films made in the 1950's.
This movie is one of my all time favorites!! A young man on a small island in the South Pacific is executed for talking to Americans stationed there and he threatens to come back and kill everyone who is responsible for his death. Well come back he does, as Tabonga, a weird walking tree monster with an unforgettable face!!
This is a typical example of the "anything goes" monster films being made in that time period.
This film has had a lot of bad things written about it, and while it may not be the best film ever written or made it is a hell of a lot more entertaining than anything made today.
Warner brings this film out in a proper widescreen ration and the print is excellent!! If you haven't seen this yet, check it out!! Tabonga Rules!!!!
