31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN DAY 5: THE MUMMY'S HAND 1940 (UNIVERSAL)

The first of four sequels to the original Mummy but Universaal changed a few things such as the name of the mummy is now Kharis and he needs tana leaves to sustain life.

In this film two men, played by Dick Foran and Wallace Ford unearth a tomb that is 3000 years old and belongs to Princess Ananka. They are helped by an eccentric magician and his lovely daughter, and soon find themselves terrorized by a living mummy guided by an evil priest.

The movie moves along at a good pace and the stirring music by Hans J. Salter is perfect. The excellent cast is rounded out by Cecil Kellaway, lovely Peggy Moran, Eduardo Cianelli, George Zucco, Charles Trowbridge and Tom Tyler as Kharis. Tyler had long been a star in westerns and this was indeed a change of pace. Highly Recommended thriller.
