CURSE OF THE STONE HAND 1964 (VCI)

I reviewed this a few years ago on this blog and now it has had an official DVD release so I am going to do it again.

Jerry Warren culled together two separate films and tied it all together with John Carradine, Lloyd Nelson and Katherine Victor, and it still makes very little sense.

One of the two short stories is taken from a very good film from Chile entitled "The Suicide Club" and is about a man who has a high debt to pay, takes out a loan and then loses that as well, so he must die, not knowing who his assassin will be. The other is from a Spanish film entitled "The Lady Of Death" and is about a man who rules a house with an iron fist.

These stories would have been good if they could have stood alone, but Warren makes everything such a mess with his bad dubbing and insert shots, that one scratches their head and wonders why he even did this.

The sad thing is I like this film BECAUSE of the original material. I saw this many years ago on WTCG before it became WTBS from Atlanta and for some reason liked it enough to track it down later. As a matter of fact it was one of the first purchases I made from Greg Luce at Sinister Cinema way back in 1984! I must be crazy. It's included on the VCI set called "Jerry Warren Collection Vol. 1" and if you're so inclined, pick it up and see what I am talking about.
