THE OUTRIDERS 1950 (WARNER ARCHIVE)

Another good western with Joel McCrea

McCrea stars as Will Owen, one of three men, who late in the Civil War, escape from a Union prison in Missouri and soon find themselves working for the Confederacy and trying to steal a huge gold shipment from a wagon train. They claim they are "outriders" so they can protect the gold and steal it when needed.

James Whitmore and Barry Sullivan are his cohorts in crime. Arlene Dahl, looking gorgeous as always is the woman with a son whom she is taking back home with her after her husband is killer. McCrea starts to fall for her and when her son dies trying to cross a rising river the bond actually grows stronger until McCrea doesn't want to steal anything anymore.

Whitmore character of Clint Priest doesn't care about the money either after a while, but Sullivan's character of Jesse Wallace is plotting to kill McCrea. Great western action and fine scenery only enhance this wonderful film that will hold your attention from start to finish.

Warner has done a great job with this film and I recommend it to any western fan. The rest of the cast includes Claude Jarman, Jr., Ramon Navarro, Jeff Corey, Ted de Corsia and Martin Garralaga.
