FEAR 1946 (TUBI)

Very strange film indeed.

A young medical student named Larry Crain (Peter Cookson) is hungry, tired and way behind in his rent and other bills. He sells things to a college professor who is a loan shark.

Crain murder Prof. Stanley (Francis Pierlot) but because of unforseen circumstances he neglects to take a huge wad of cash. Police Capt. Burke (Warren William) and Detective Shaefer (Nestor Paiva) investigate the murder.

Burke suspects Crain as does Shaefer, but there is no evidence to prove he did it. Burke works on Crain slowly in order to make him confess. Meanwhile a story Crain wrote for a magazine is published and he receives 1000 dollars. Crain also tries romancing a beautiful woman named Eileen (Anne Gwynne).

The net gets tighter and tighter around Crain until.....

I can't give away the ending to this film. I can tell you this is an American version of the Dostoevsky story "Crime and Punishment" and it works very well. The ending really had me going "whoa" for a minute.

While watching this film my wife said "look...there is the Night Stalker guy" and sure enough there was Darren McGavin in a small role as a blonde college student. I couldn't believe it! McGavin was 23 when he appeared in this film and I didn't even recognise him.

This is an enjoyable little film running a slight 68 minutes. It never lets up and it's got a very good story and the actors do very well with the material. I'm glad I stumbled on this. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot. RECOMMENDED!!

THE PANTHER WOMEN 1967 (VCI)

Another very odd Mexican horror film.

This one also has a new English dubbed soundtrack just like "Batwoman". It was never released in the USA and there are reasons for this. The primary one is that this is a 1967 film shot in Black and White.

The film centers around an ancient Satanic cult that is run by panther women and their efforts to raise Elohim, and ancient God from the dead. They run afoul of two female wrestlers, The Golden Rubi (Elizabeth Campbell) and Loreta Venus (Ariadne Welter) who try to stop them.

They are helped by a detective who is the boyfriend of Rubi and a masked wrestler named El Angel. It's a pretty good little film and it's especially eerie when Elohim rises from his tomb as a rotted corpse.

The film looks like it was done in the late 1950's and that is due to the gothic atmosphere. The film moves along at a good pace and there is of course, the mandatory wrestling chasllenge when Rubi and Venus fight two pather women in the ring.

Not much has been written about this film and it's not too well known. This was out in a Spanish only version for a couple of years, but VCI has released it with a new dubbed soudtrack and that has a lot of people disappointed. I find it interesting if not well done.

The print is beautiful and if Mexican horror is your thing, then get this DVD or Blu-ray and see it!! RECOMMENDED!!

ZAMBO 1972 (TUBI)

A good Italian action/adventure film I had never heard of until it appeared on streaming.

Brad Harris stars as George Ryon, a man who has been wrongly accused of murder and sentanced to life in an African prison

He and another convict escape from a train they are on and make their way into the jungle. Ryon manages to stay alive, but his friend passes away after eating a poisonious plant.

The action shifts to a group of people planning an expidition into the jungle to find some hidden tombs and maybe a vast treasure. Frof. Woodworth (Attilio Dottesio) and his beautiful daughter Grace (Gisela Hahn) head into the jungle with a few others in the party.

Zambo doies not like their coming. He has been befriended by the local native tribe and works with them to keep the peace and protect the wildlife. It seems not everyone in the expidition is honest and some are planning to kill anyone who gets in their way of the treasure, if there is one.

This is a film that should really be called "The Italian Tarzan". There are a few differences, of course, but the basic idea is the same. Harris does a credible job in the title role and the film never really slows down.

I was glad to discover this little gem and I won't give too much more detail as there are things I don't wanrt to spoil. If you feel so inclined, check it out.

BOG 1979 (AMAZON PRIME)

Not too bad of a monster movie.

Dynamite awakens a creature in a southern swamp and it promptly starts a killing spree.

Marshall Thompson stars as Dr. Brad Wednesday, a local doctor who is trying to solves sevral unsolved murders of people who have had their blood sucked out of the bodies. He gets an assist from Ginny Glenn (Gloria DeHaven) and the local Sheriff played by Aldo Ray.

The creature comes out at night and kills the unsuspectiong victims and when the viewer finally sees the monster, it will not doubt get some laughs. It is a bizarre looking thing for sure.

There is a witch named Adrianna living in the woods around the swamp and she seems to have a connection with the creature as it never harms her. It's interesting to note that Adrianna is also played by DeHaven.

To me this is a good throwback to monster films of the 50's and 60's. It's fun and the familiar faces are always welcome. Leo Gordon shows up as Dr. John Warren for the last 20 minutes of the film.

I also found it interesting with the romance angle between Wednesday and Glenn. You just don't see that in movies. It seems film makers believe that nobody over 45 has any romance left in them.

This film receives too much bad press. Come on, it isn't that bad. If you haven't seen the movie you might want to check it out.

TARZAN'S REVENGE 1938 (TUBI)

I haven't seen this film since the early VHS days when I picked it up at K Mart for 5 bucks.

Glenn Morris stars as Tarzan who tracks a small expidition and tries to protect a young woman named Eleanor (Eleanor Holm). She has a rather wimpy boyfriend and their relationship is on the rocks.

Adding to this problem is a native named Ben Alleu Bey (C. Henry Gordon) who wants to add Eleanor to his 100 wife harem. There are many adventures and Tarzan frees all of the animals the expidition has captured.

Tarzan and Eleanor meet and she is rather taken with his ways and by the end of the film Bey is taken down a peg or two and Eleanor stays with the jungle man.

Not too bad of a film for the time. The rest of the cast includes George Barbier, Hedda Hopper and Joe Sawyer. If you're a Tarzan fan you'll want to see this if you haven't already. It's available from every PD company making DVD's today.

NIGHT OF TERROR 1933 (TUBI)

Kinda fun old dark house thriller.

The plot of this is pretty straight forward. A group of heirs to a family fortune are required to stay in the family mansion and attend a seance.

Thru the night members of the family are killed one by one and the blame is put on an escaped maniac that we see at the beginning of the film killing a young couple.

Wallace Ford stars as a reporter in the house who is trying to grab the big story. Bela Lugosi is a swami named Degar and he really doesn't have much to do, but it add a small horror element to a standard thriller.

Once the true identity of the killer is revealed the viewer is given a rather interesting "black comedy" ending that actually works pretty good. This is a fun film given it's a tired formula.

The rest of the cast includes Sally Blane, Bryant Washburn, Tulley Marshall and Edwin Maxwell. If you have nothing better to do this is a great way to spend an hour.

RIP RUSH LIMBAUGH 1951-2021

WARNING...THIS IS POLITICAL SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE...DON'T READ.

I am a conservative and I admit it and am proud of it. In radio I have a few people I admire and have really been influenced by...Alan Freed, Casey Kasem and Rush Limbaugh.

I have been listening to Rush since 1996 and he was a HUGE part of my life. He was the guiding light in my conservative views as much as Donald Trump. Limbaugh can never be replaced on the radio, and he made talk radio what it is today, as far as conservative radio that is.

I really don't know what to say except that Rush made putting up with liberal garbage easier as he was always on the cutting edge of what was happening. A GREAT MAN, A PATRIOT and a man WHO REALLY LOVED THIS COUNTRY AND STOOD BY WHAT HE BELIEVED IN.

Rush Hudson Limbaugh passed away from lung cancer on Feb. 17th, 2021 at the age of 70. I will miss him and so will millions of others who believe in the ideals that made this country great. In the quagmire of liberal crap there will never be another GREAT CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN like Rush Limbaugh.

LAST SHARK 1981 (TUBI)

Finally got a chance to see this and wasn't too disappointed.

James Franciscus stars in this Italian rip off of the JAWS films here in the USA.

He is Peter Benson, a biologist who, after a young man disappears under mysterious circumstances in the ocean, seeks to convince the local Mayor that a shark has come into their waters.

The Mayor refuses to do anythng because of an upcoming regatta, but an Irishman named Ron Hamer (Vic Morrow) agrees to help him in his quest to kill the shark.

They both get more than they bargained for when they discover that the shark is a huge 35 foot great white. The film works well if you're not expecting too much in the way of originality.

I like the shark as it does come across as terrifying in most of it's scenes. There is some gore, but not a lot. The shark even takes out a helicopter much like in Jaws 2.

This movie gets a lot of flack but I have seen much worse. I think the film works better if you're afraid of water and sharks. Check it out for a good way to waste 90 minutes.

RIP LYNN STALMASTER 1927-2021

The KING of casting has died.

To list all of the movies and TV credits that Lynn Stalmaster was involved in would take much too much space.

Suffice to say he had over 400 movie and TV credits and launched the careers of many a star. Just a brief rundown of the movies and TV productions he was associated with include HAVE GUN..WILL TRAVEL, GUNSMOKE, THE BING CROSBY SHOW, HOGAN'S HEROES, DELIVERANCE, CONVOY, DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW and so much more.

On a personal note...it was Lynn who got me my first job at United Artists and without him this strange and wonderful life I have had wouldn't be the same.

A pioneer and a heck of a nice guy. I guess you could say I owe it all to Lynn Stalmaster. He passed away on Feb 12th at the age of 93.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...

Sherry Jackson is 79, and Jane Seymour is 70.

THE NIGHT EATS THE WORLD 2018 (AMAZON PRIME)

Not too shabby of a film considering it was made in 2018.

This film was shot in Paris, France and it cvoncerns a young man named Sam (Anders Danielsen Lie) who goes to his girlfriends apartment to collect the rest of his belongings after he has been thrown out. When he arrives there is a huge party going on and in order to escape it Sam has a few drinks and then shuts himself in a back bedroom.

We only hear a short bit of the chaos when zombies break in a kill everyone at the party. Sam wakes up the next morning and finds the apartment all blood splattered and everything scattered about.

He soon realizes that he is alone and that Paris has been destroyed and zombies roam the land. What is unique about these zombies is that they make no noise. Sam slowly gathers food from the other empty apartments while fighting some of the living dead roaming the building.

He even spends his lonely hours talking to a zombie he names Alfred that is trapped in the apartment elevator. This movie delves into a different aspect of a zombie apocalypse...what effect does it have on the human mind of a person who knows he cannot get away from the situation?

Sam meets a young woman named Sarah (Golshifteh Farahani) and even this character is not what the viewer is expecting. I won't give it away. The ending is rather bleak with Sam discovering the ultimate truth about his situation.

There is very little dialogue in this film which is also unique. It moves at a very good pace and I found myself really wrapped up in the story. Several scenes really scared my wife and subsequently made me jump as well.

I would recommend this to any horror fan looking for something slightly different.
