Many years ago my mother turned me on to this film and it has been a favorite ever since. Now it looks better than ever on the Blu-ray from Universal. I know it has been out for a while, but I finally got a chance to see it just the other day.
Tippi Hedren is a young socialite named Melanie Daniels, who thru a chance meeting finds herself interested in a man named Mitch Brenner, who lives in an apartment in San Francisco but spends his weekends on Bodega Bay on his small farm with his mother and sister.
Rod Taylor is excellent in his role as Brenner and he and Hedren have a certain screen chemistry that really clicks. Soon these people find themselves fighting for their lives after several unexplained bird attacks.
The attacks become more frequent and violent until no one is safe. Hitchcock knew how to make movies very well and this along with "Psycho" are the two shining examples of how a horror film should work.
The build up is slow, the characters fleshed out and then once you actually start getting involved with the on screen actors that's when the terror and surprises start.
Love this film, and on Blu-ray it looks fantastic. The rest of the cast includes Suzanne Pleshette, Jessica Tandy, Veronica Cartwright, Charles McGraw, Malcolm Atterbury and Ruth McDevitt. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
