Five people head to Mars and find that it is inhabited by a race of people. The astronauts are welcomed with open arms, but it soon becomes apparent that the Martians are wanting to steal the rocket from the astronauts and head to Earth in order to take it over.
Arthur Franz, Virginia Huston, John Litel, Richard Gaines and Cameron Mitchell are the astronauts and Morris Ankrum is Ikron, the leader of Mars who wants to rocket. Lovely Marguerite Chapman is one of the Martian women and she slowly falls for Franz.
Filmed in gorgeous Cinecolor, watching this movie again after so long is like being with an old friend. It's comfortable and very welcome. Filmed for Monogram Studios this was a big budget production for them, and it shows. The print used for the DVD has a few annoying splices that take out some dialogue. The original VHS was perfect and I don't know why they didn't use that print again, but trust me, it will not take away your enjoyment of this film.
I like this film a lot, I always have. Included on this disc is a two part interview with Cameron Mitchell conducted by David Del Valle, and that is interesting...very interesting. Recommended!
