TOP 50 RELEASES FOR 2016 PART 1

Here we are again. This is the first of five looks at the TOP 50 DVD/BLU-RAY releases of the year.

It was quite a year indeed. There were plenty of great titles that came out and it was difficult making this list. Some you may agree with, some not.

Shout Factory and Sinister Cinema had a lot of new items that made my survey. Shout has 11 and Sinister has 9. My survey period is from Nov. 2015 to Nov. 2016. Let's take a look at the first 10...

50. DOLEMITE (VINEGAR SYNDROME)BLU-RAY...The excellent Rudy Day Moore classic about an ex con fighting for justice finally made it's way to Blu-ray, and what a classic it is.

49. BLACK SLEEP (KINO) BLU-RAY...Fun 50's shocker starring Bela Lugosi, John Carradine, Basil Rathbone and a host of others. A mad scientist experiments on unwilling victims and creates mutants. The quality is better than I have ever seen for this film.

48. THE BEES (VINEGAR SYNDROME)... John Saxson stars in this incredible "nature on the rampage" film. This is a lot of fun for those so inclined.

47. SYMPTOMS (MONDO MACABRO) BLU-RAY...Angela Pleasence stars in a very bizarre film about a very bizarre young woman living on a desolate country estate. Long lost film finally released on Blu-ray.

46. INVASION USA (SHOUT FACTORY) BLU-RAY...Chuck Norris is a one man army who must save America from a madman who wants to take it over and ruin it. Not a lot of plot, but who cares...this film delivers the goods.

45. NIGHTMARES (SHOUT FACTORY) BLU-RAY... Four fun little stories comprise this film. It was a box office disaster when first released, but it is well worth seeking out. Watch out for that rodent!!

44. YONGARY (KINO) BLU-RAY... I was very happy to see this little Korean gem hit Blu-ray. A giant monster invades Korea and the military tries to stop it. A great Godzilla inspired film.

43. HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS/GHOST WARRIOR (SHOUT FACTORY) BLU-RAY... Great little double feature of somewhat obscure horror titles. The first concerns a family that moves into an old house in Japan and are soon possessed by evil spirits. Ghost Warrior is a bizarre film about a 400 year old frozen Samurai who comes back to life after his frozen body is thawed out in Los Angeles. That plot alone makes this Blu-ray a MUST.

42. HUMAN TORNADO (VINEGAR SYNDROME) BLU-RAY... Rudy Ray Moore returns a Dolemite is this funny and action filled sequel. This also has some pretty memorable sequences and is a very enjoyable film.

41. KILL PANTHER KILL (SINISTER CINEMA)... Very enjoyable Kommissar X entry which also stars gorgeous Erica Blanc. Lots of action and intrigue as Tom Roland (Brad Harris) and Joe Walker (Tony Kendall) hunt criminals looking for stolen diamonds. The print quality is excellent.
