One of, if not the greatest wrestling announcer in history has passed away.
Gene Okerlund started his announcing career with the American Wrestling Association which is where I came to know him. He left that organization during the 80's and headed for the WWF where he made his biggest impact.
Okerlund then moved to WCW in 1993 and was there until 2001. He was a shining star during the wonderful "Monday Night Wars" when wrestling was at it's peak.
He had a way about him that most do not have. He and the late Bobby Heenan had some great non scripted go arounds. Okerlund was the consummate professional and made the sport a lot of fun both in front and behind the camera.
He had just turned 76 on Dec. 19th and no cause of death has been released. "Mean" Gene was 76. Goodbye to a legend and a man who made wrestling fun in and out of the squared circle.
