Arthur Kennedy stars as Umberto, the head of a bourgeois family.
They are on their annual vacation to a Mediterranean island. We are introduced to them whle they are on their boat and everyone seems to dislike everyone else.
This is indeed a family with some dark secrets including a shocking murder we see in the opening minutes of the film. I don't want to give too much away here.
When they arrive at the island they all go to the house and we are told even more about how these people really are. It seems everyone is sleeping with someone else in the family. This has to be one of the most disfunctional families I have ever seen in any film.
A mysterious killer offs the sailors still on the boat and then sends the boat out to sea so everyone is trapped on the island. Slowly, one by one people are killed and it boils down to the murder we saw at the beginning.
There are dozens of plots twists and turns and several red herrings and the ending is a real kicker.
The cast also includes John Richardson, Caroline Laurence, Massimo Foschi and Dana Ghia (who just passed away a few days ago). I can't recommend this enough. I say watch it and just enjoy another top notch Giallo.
