MICHAEL SHAYNE, PRIVATE DETECTIVE 1941 (20TH CENTURY FOX ARCHIVES)

Interesting mixture of mystery, film noir and comedy.

Lloyd Nolan stars as Shayne, his first of seven performances as the master detective over the coming years.

In this film Shayne is hired to protect the daughter of a millionaire from gambling and gamblers. Before you know it he is involved in the murder of a racetrack gambler and must solve the case.

This is a very light film noir and has a lot of comedy in it, which isn't a bad thing. Nolan handles the acting chores well with his performance as the Irish detective with a thing for the ladies.

The other performers in the cast include Marjorie Weaver as the young woman Mike is hired to protect, Walter Abel, Eliabeth Patterson as the always lovable Aunt Olivia who reads too many detective novels and helps Shayne solve the murder.

All in all not too bad of a film for mystery fans. If you're one of them, as I am, you might want to check this out.
