Wayne stars as Jerry Mason, a young man who helps his friend Jake Benson run a small ranch and blacksmith shop.
He and Benson (George "Gabby" Hayes) find a gold mine and then start working on that. When they take their gold to the assay office, the man in charge and his assistant track Benson back to his mine.
They shoot Benson and leave him for dead and frame Mason for the murder. Benson turns out to be alive and he and his daughter Betty (Barbara Sheldon) plan to expose the thieves at Jerry's trial.
I have always liked westerns from the 30's and this is no exception. Wayne got his start in these oaters, and they are actually some of the best of his early career. Westerns like this always followed a similar plot and I do admit they are made for a very undemanding audience, of which I am one most of the time.
Lone Star Pictures turned out plenty of these in the depression and they made their mark with audiences. This is a fun little film running just under an hour and I was surprised that this film had more fist fights than gun fights which is indeed different.
